Overview

Estimate Japanese take-home pay for salaried employees. From your gross annual salary, age, dependents, and spouse status the tool subtracts health insurance, pension, employment insurance, income tax (with the recovery surtax) and resident tax to show approximate net annual and monthly income.

How to use

  1. Enter your gross annual salary (including bonuses).
  2. Enter your age. Ages 40–64 automatically add the long-term care insurance premium.
  3. Enter the number of dependents aged 16 or over (excluding spouse).
  4. Tick the spouse deduction checkbox if your spouse's income is under ¥1.03M.
  5. Click Calculate to see your estimated take-home pay and effective tax ratio.

FAQ

Does this include bonuses?
Yes — enter the total gross paid across the year (salary + all bonuses). Social insurance is approximated on the total; the real system uses 標準報酬 tables.
Why does the ratio drop as income grows?
Progressive income tax and resident tax push effective rates higher, and the 給与所得控除 caps at ¥1.95M above ¥8.5M gross.
Can I use this for freelance income?
No. This assumes salaried employment (会社員). Freelancers should model 事業所得 with their own expense deductions.
